This is the website of Community Wise, in Old Town, Eastbourne

We are a community centre with a Christian basis.

Latest news:

Transformation of Community Wise 1960s flat-roofed concrete premises continues ... a recent donation of £275 from local supermarket Waitrose will go towards the renovation of the front stairs and stairwell. Starting now, the process will take three stages. Plastering the interior brick walls is complete and a new wrought iron balustrade is on order. Glass panels and ash wood decoration will complete the new look.

A grant from EDF Energy Green Fund enabled Community Wise to commission the Energy Centre for Sustainable Communities to undertake a Renewable Energy Options Appraisal. This appraisal has now been completed and Community Wise is seeking to implement the recommendations. These have been prioritised:

Replace existing gas boiler with new energy efficient boiler. The existing boiler is 20 years old and has an efficiency of 60%. A new boiler would have an efficiency of 90%.
Install flat roof insulation.
Install Cavity wall insulation within the exterior walls.
Install solar voltaic panels.

Live Better For Less Exhibition

A Live Better for Less exhibition was arranged in partnership with English in the Community, Eastbourne Homes, Friends of Princes Park and Community Wise. This hugely successful free event was all about saving money and was held in November 08. Stands, demonstrations and workshops gave information and freebies on a wide variety of topics such as

bee-keeping
keeping hens
freecycling
composting
growing your own food
cooking on a budget
grants and services
saving energy
cheap leisure and entertainment

Visitors found out how to enjoy a happier healthier lifestyle while spending less money. See www.livebetterforless.org.uk for information about the Live Better for Less movement and future exhibitions.

Drama Workshops for kids

A lively drama workshop for children during the summer holidays - for ages 5 to 10 on Tuesday 1st September - from 10 am to 12 noon. These fun workshops incorporate mime, music, storytelling and games to encourage confidence in speaking and language development.

Monthly Farmers Market

The last Saturday of each month, Community Wise hosts a successful Farmers Market from 10.00 am til 1.00 pm. Healthy local produce will be on sale, including meat, fruit and vegetables, home-made produce, bread and milk. Country Markets will sell home made cakes and local craft stalls will be amongst the items on sale. Refreshments will be on sale inside.

Dates: Saturday 25th July. 29th August, 26th September, Saturday 31st October, 28th November. No December market.
